Having the founder deployed to Iraq poses different challenges, but it also opens the door to opportunity, and the chance to assist in new and exciting ways. For example, while stationed at Al Asad Air Base, Iraq, Lance discovered a Fire Station staffed by US Fire Fighters and EMT/EMS personnel on base. These are fire & rescue members from fire houses all over the States, from New Jersey to Alabama and all points in-between.

Most Americans appreciate the sacrifices made by the men and women of the Armed Services deployed overseas, but very few know about the men and women working hard to protect those that defend freedom! Having civilian fire & rescue members stationed at Al Asad Air Base enables the soldiers, sailors, airmen & Marines stationed there to focus on their missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The teamwork displayed by these fellow Sheepdogs is an example of the mutual respect and support that exemplifies those with the fighting spirit, the spirit of a Sheepdog.

With the discovery of the Fire Station on Al Asad, Lance reached out to the members and supporters of Sheep Dog IA in an attempt to make people more aware of the sacrifices made by these selfless men and women. The decision was made to adopt the Al Asad Fire Station for the holidays and make a positive impact on the lives of the men and women serving there. Many items were donated, to include cookies & candy, basic toiletry items, games, books, etc… Items that would let these fellow Sheepdogs know that they are not forgotten, and that their sacrifice is greatly appreciated

Also of special note, was the identification of fellow Marines, sailors & soldiers that did not have the same support from home that many others are fortunate to have. Sheep Dog IA adopted 62 men and women that deserved a little something extra for Christmas, a reminder that they too are not forgotten during the challenges of a deployment far from home. Supporting our fellow Sheepdogs will always be an important aspect of Sheep Dog – Impact Assistance. Making a positive impact in the lives of those Sheepdogs, no matter where they may be serving, is what Sheep Dog IA is all about!
