September in Action: Sheep Dog Impact Assistance Builds Momentum Into a Season of Service

September in Action: Service, Connection and a Growing Sheep Dog Community

September has been a busy month at Sheep Dog Impact Assistance (SDIA), and it reflects something much bigger than a packed calendar.

Across our programs, events and communities, Veterans, First Responders, volunteers, donors and supporters have continued to answer the call to #GetOffTheCouch.

From Outdoor Adventures and Warrior PATHH to community service, remembrance and fellowship, September demonstrated the continuum of support at the heart of SDIA’s mission. And with several opportunities still ahead this fall, there are plenty of ways to become part of it.

More Than an Event: A Continuum of Support

One of the things that makes Sheep Dog Impact Assistance unique is that we are not a “catch-and-release” organization.

Our mission is built around three primary programs: Outdoor Adventures, Warrior PATHH and Disaster Response Missions. Each provides a different opportunity for our nation’s Veterans and First Responders to find connection, purpose, challenge and continued growth.

A Sheep Dog might first join us on an Outdoor Adventure, surrounded by others who understand the unique experiences of service.

That connection may eventually lead them to Warrior PATHH, our transformative training program focused on helping participants turn struggle into strength and pursue posttraumatic growth.

Later, that same individual may pull on work gloves, grab a chainsaw or join a volunteer team through a Disaster Response Mission, once again finding purpose through service to others.

Different programs. Different seasons of life. One Sheep Dog community.

September Put the Mission Into Motion

That continuum was easy to see throughout September.

At Heroes Ranch, another Warrior PATHH class gathered for intensive work centered on connection, reflection, challenge and posttraumatic growth. Experiences including Equine Connection, archery and the labyrinth gave participants opportunities to engage in the work in very different ways.

At the same time, Sheep Dog couples traveled to South Dakota’s Black Hills for an Outdoor Adventure, where connection and camaraderie met zip lining, exploration and an unforgettable nighttime experience at Mount Rushmore.

Closer to home, community events gave volunteers and supporters opportunities to put service into action.

On September 12, SDIA’s GoodWorks Day of Service brought volunteers together in Rogers, Arkansas, to organize and inventory Disaster Response Mission trailers. It may not be the most glamorous part of disaster response, but preparedness before a disaster strikes is what helps teams move quickly when communities need assistance.

That same day, riders gathered for the 2026 Heroes Ranch Poker Run, traveling from Mach 1 Moto in Rogers to Heroes Ranch for a day of riding, fellowship and support for the SDIA mission.

September has been a month with boots, motorcycles, backpacks, work gloves and plenty of miles. Different activities, same underlying idea:

Get Off The Couch and find a way to move forward together.

Honoring Veterans at the Bella Vista Veterans Wall of Honor

September also brings an important new chapter for the Veterans Wall of Honor in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

On September 23, volunteers will gather for a Community Cleanup Day to prepare the Wall and surrounding grounds for its upcoming ribbon cutting.

Then, on Friday, September 25 at 11:00 a.m., the public is invited to join Sheep Dog Impact Assistance for the Veterans Wall of Honor Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 101 Veterans Way in Bella Vista.

The ceremony will honor the legacy of this meaningful Northwest Arkansas landmark while celebrating its next chapter with SDIA.

It is fitting that a place created to preserve the stories and service of Veterans will continue through a community rooted in service itself.

The Mission Doesn't Slow Down When September Ends

October and November bring even more opportunities to participate in SDIA’s mission.

On October 1, volunteers will help SDIA welcome supporters to a private Donor Appreciation Dinner at Heroes Ranch in Jane, Missouri. Volunteers are needed from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. to assist with setup, guest hospitality, service throughout the evening and cleanup.

Then November brings two Northwest Arkansas traditions centered on giving back.

For the 2026 Thanksgiving Outreach, volunteers will help SDIA prepare and deliver 125 complete Thanksgiving meals to military members, Veterans and First Responders across Northwest Arkansas. Load-out and preparation will take place Friday, November 20, followed by meal pack-out and delivery on Monday, November 23.

And Thanksgiving week brings the 19th Annual NWA Turkey Trot for Heroes. Volunteer activities will take place November 25 and 26, leading into the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, November 27, in Rogers.

Participants can choose from the 5K, Wild Gobbler, 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk or Virtual 5K.

Run. Walk. Volunteer. Pack a meal. Welcome a donor. Honor a Veteran.

There is no single way to #GetOffTheCouch.

Why Continued Support Matters

Behind every event is a much larger mission.

Outdoor Adventures require travel, lodging, meals, equipment and logistical support. Warrior PATHH requires trained staff, facilities, programming and continued participant support. Disaster Response Missions require trailers, tools, equipment, supplies and the ability to deploy when communities are hit by disasters.

Heroes Ranch itself provides a home base where Veterans and First Responders can gather, reconnect and participate in programming throughout the year.

And demand continues to grow.

As more Sheep Dogs learn about these opportunities, SDIA must continue expanding its ability to meet them when they are ready to take that next step.

That is why donors, volunteers, sponsors and community partners are essential to the mission.

Financial gifts help create opportunities for Veterans and First Responders to participate in SDIA programs. Volunteers provide the people-power behind events, outreach and disaster response. Sponsors and community partners help extend the reach of programs that would not be possible without them.

Every piece matters.

The Program May Change. The Community Remains.

The goal isn’t simply to give someone a memorable weekend and send them home.

It is to create opportunities for continued engagement.

A Veteran who joins an Outdoor Adventure today may walk through the doors of Heroes Ranch for Warrior PATHH tomorrow. A First Responder who completes Warrior PATHH may later find themselves standing beside another Sheep Dog during a Disaster Response Mission. A volunteer who joins us for a community event may discover an entirely new way to serve.

That is the power of a continuum.

There is always another trail, another challenge, another community that needs help, another Sheep Dog who needs someone beside them.

And there is always another opportunity to Get Off The Couch.

Find Your Place in the Sheep Dog Community

As September comes to a close, we are grateful for everyone who rode, ran, volunteered, participated, donated, partnered and showed up.

But we’re not finished.

October and November are waiting.

Whether you give, volunteer, participate in an event, share our mission or help introduce another Veteran or First Responder to SDIA, you become part of creating the next opportunity.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to live their best life. Together, we can make sure our nation’s heroes have somewhere to turn when they’re ready for their next step.
