Yellowstone National Park, WY — Last week, Sheep Dog Impact Assistance (SDIA) brought together over 25 Veterans, First Responders, and their spouses for an unforgettable Outdoor Adventure in one of America’s most breathtaking landscapes, Yellowstone National Park.
For many of our participants, this trip was more than a vacation; it was a vital step in their Post-Traumatic Growth (PTG) journey, a chance to connect with others who share similar experiences, and a way to reclaim their sense of purpose and joy.

Discovering Yellowstone’s Wonders
The group began their journey by settling into cozy lodging just outside the park, where bonds quickly formed over shared stories, laughter, and camaraderie. The first two days included a guided tour of Yellowstone, where participants experienced awe-inspiring sights and incredible wildlife encounters.
Our Sheep Dogs witnessed:
- Majestic elk grazing in the meadows
- Mighty bison roaming freely
- And, in a rare and unforgettable moment, three black wolves moved through the park’s wilderness
Participants also visited Yellowstone’s world-famous landmarks, including:
- Old Faithful, the iconic geyser that erupts like clockwork
- The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, a stunning natural masterpiece carved by the Yellowstone River
- Countless hot springs, geysers, and steam pots that paint the landscape in vibrant colors and remind us of nature’s raw power
These experiences set the stage for not only adventure but also meaningful connection and reflection.
Action, Connection, and Camaraderie
The following days took the adventure up a notch. Participants:
- Zipped through the Gallatin National Forest on RZRs while taking in stunning views of Hebgen Lake
- Rode horseback across the wide-open spaces of Parade Rest Ranch
- Explored the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center, learning about the resilience of Yellowstone’s wildlife
- Enjoyed the charming shops and small-town hospitality of West Yellowstone
Beyond the action-packed activities, this adventure was about something even more powerful: connection. Veterans & First Responders bonded deeply, sharing experiences and finding a sense of belonging that can only be discovered among fellow Sheep Dogs.
A Message from Jason Adcock
One of the week’s leaders, Jason Adcock, captured the heart of this Outdoor Adventure with these words:
“What an amazing week with Sheep Dog Impact Assistance! With the beautiful artwork on display in and around West Yellowstone and Yellowstone National Park, the staff at SDIA turned it up a notch to a level I know we can maintain. Everyone and everything was amazing! I am always grateful to be a Sheep Dog, but today I am beside myself. There is no limit to what we can do as an organization.
Getting to spend time with this awesome group of new Sheep Dogs was a blessing. The eagerness, camaraderie, the enthusiasm for what we do was on full display. What an honor to work with such an incredibly grateful group of our nation’s best.“
More Than Just an Adventure, A Path to Healing
At SDIA, we know that getting off the couch is the first step toward building a healthier, more fulfilling life after trauma. Outdoor Adventures like this one are designed to push comfort zones, strengthen peer support, and remind our Sheep Dogs that they are not alone on their journey.
For some, this trip was their first time in the mountains. For others, it was a return to a place that holds personal meaning. For all, it was a chance to step away from daily stress, reconnect with nature, and rediscover the drive to live their best lives.

Why Outdoor Adventures Matter
Studies, and our own years of experience, show that time in nature reduces stress, improves mental clarity, and fosters resilience. SDIA’s Outdoor Adventures aren’t just about hiking trails or seeing incredible landscapes; they’re about healing. They give participants the chance to:
- Step away from daily stress and trauma.
- Reconnect with themselves, nature, and others who understand their journey.
- Be in a safe, supportive environment for Veterans and First Responders to connect.
- Learn and practice Post-Traumatic Growth principles that participants can carry forward into everyday life and spark lasting change
- Build lifelong bonds that extend into other SDIA programs like Warrior PATHH and Continued Service/Disaster Response Missions

From Yellowstone to What’s Next
We are incredibly proud of every participant who made the decision to join us in Yellowstone. These brave men and women are proof that with the right support, it’s possible to move forward from life’s toughest moments and thrive. Their courage to show up, step into the unknown, and embrace growth is proof that there is no limit to what we can achieve together.
This Yellowstone Outdoor Adventure is just one of the many trips we host each year. Whether hiking in a national park, rafting a wild river, or climbing a challenging peak, every adventure is a step toward healing, connection, and a renewed sense of purpose.
This Yellowstone trip was more than an adventure — it was a turning point. For many participants, it was the start of a new chapter filled with purpose, community, and hope.
