Tanner Creek Outdoor Adventure

Tanyard Creek Outdoor Adventure

Adventure, connection, and community were at the heart of Sheep Dog Impact Assistance’s recent Tanyard Creek Outdoor Adventure.

Sheep Dog Impact Assistance (SDIA) welcomed a group of student Veterans from the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) for a weekend of outdoor adventure, camaraderie, and shared experiences at Heroes Ranch in Northwest Arkansas.

From navigating rugged trails in RZR off-road vehicles to practicing archery, mountain biking, hiking, and participating in equine activities, the weekend offered plenty of opportunities to embrace new challenges, build friendships, and Get Off The Couch™.

Adventure Beyond the Classroom

For student Veterans, transitioning from military service into academic life can bring new opportunities alongside unique challenges. Finding community with others who understand the experiences of military service can be an important part of that transition.

The Tanyard Creek Outdoor Adventure created space for Veterans to step away from their academic routines, explore the outdoors, and connect with fellow Sheep Dogs.

Throughout the weekend, participants enjoyed:

RZR Riding at Rush Springs: Navigating rugged terrain, enjoying the thrill of off-road exploration, and sharing an exciting outdoor experience.

Archery at Heroes Ranch: Practicing focus, patience, and new skills while encouraging one another.

Equine Activities: Spending time around horses and experiencing opportunities for connection and personal reflection.

Hiking at Tanyard Creek Waterfall: Exploring the natural beauty of Northwest Arkansas and enjoying time outdoors together.

Mountain Biking: Embracing physical challenges, movement, and the satisfaction of trying something adventurous.

Each activity provided a different opportunity to build confidence, enjoy the outdoors, and strengthen connections with fellow Veterans.

More Than an Adventure: Building Lasting Connections

While the outdoor activities brought plenty of excitement, some of the most meaningful moments happened between adventures.

Shared meals, conversations, and evenings gathered around the fire pit gave participants time to relax, exchange experiences, and enjoy the camaraderie that often comes naturally among those who have served.

At SDIA, we recognize that connection and a sense of belonging are essential parts of building a meaningful life after service.

Our Outdoor Adventures are designed to provide more than a memorable weekend. They create opportunities for Veterans and First Responders to reconnect with others, challenge themselves, and discover a supportive community that extends beyond any single event.

Get Off The Couch™: A Continuum of Connection and Growth

At Sheep Dog Impact Assistance, our mission is rooted in helping our nation’s Veterans and First Responders live healthy, active, and purposeful lives.

Through Outdoor Adventures, Warrior PATHH, and Continued Service opportunities, SDIA provides multiple ways for Sheep Dogs to remain engaged, build relationships, and pursue personal growth.

For some participants, an Outdoor Adventure may be their first introduction to the SDIA community. Others may return for another adventure, participate in Warrior PATHH, or find renewed purpose by serving alongside fellow Sheep Dogs during Disaster Response Missions.

The program may change, but the community remains.

By bringing UCA student Veterans together at Heroes Ranch, the Tanyard Creek Outdoor Adventure reinforced a simple but powerful message: You don’t have to navigate life’s next chapter alone.

Thank You to Our UCA Student Veterans, Staff, and Volunteers!

We extend our sincere appreciation to the University of Central Arkansas student Veterans who joined us for this adventure, as well as the dedicated SDIA staff and volunteers who helped make the weekend possible.

Your participation, enthusiasm, and willingness to embrace new experiences are what make these adventures meaningful.

From the trails to the conversations around the fire pit, the weekend was another reminder of the power of getting outside, connecting with others, and building a community of support.

Thank you for another incredible weekend of Getting Off The Couch™!
