For sixteen years, Sheep Dog Impact Assistance (SDIA) has stood beside America’s military members, veterans, first responders, and their families with one unwavering mission: serving those who serve others.
What began in 2009 as a bold vision to encourage our nation’s heroes to Get Off the Couch® has grown into a nationwide movement rooted in healing, resilience, service, and community. Today, as SDIA celebrates its 16th anniversary, we honor not only the organization’s history but the thousands of lives that have been forever changed through connection, purpose, and hope.
A Mission That Started with One Simple Idea
The idea behind Sheep Dog Impact Assistance has always been about more than recovery. It has been about rediscovering purpose.
Military service members, veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS professionals, dispatchers, and their families often spend years serving others before realizing they need support themselves. SDIA was created to bridge that gap by offering opportunities that reconnect individuals with community, challenge, and meaningful service.
For sixteen years, that mission has remained unchanged: Helping those who dedicate their lives to protecting others continue living lives filled with purpose, resilience, and hope.
Sixteen Years of Impact
Since its founding, Sheep Dog Impact Assistance has continued to expand programs designed to meet participants wherever they are in their journey.
Through Outdoor Adventures, participants rediscover confidence, connection, and the healing power of shared experiences in nature.
Through Warrior PATHH, individuals learn evidence-based skills that foster posttraumatic growth, helping transform struggle into strength and creating lasting change long after the program ends.
Through Continued Service and Disaster Response Missions, Sheep Dogs once again answer the call to serve by helping communities recover after natural disasters, proving that healing often happens while serving others.
Together, these programs create a powerful continuum of care that empowers participants not simply to recover, but to thrive.
This Anniversary Is About People
Milestones are measured in years, but impact is measured in people.
This anniversary belongs to every volunteer who showed up when someone needed help.
It belongs to every donor whose generosity made life-changing programs possible.
It belongs to every corporate and community partner who believed in the mission.
It belongs to every veteran, service member, first responder, and family member who trusted Sheep Dog Impact Assistance enough to take the next step toward healing.
Because of each of these individuals, friendships have become family, purpose has replaced isolation, and hope has been restored in countless lives across the country.
Looking Ahead
As Sheep Dog Impact Assistance begins its seventeenth year, the mission continues to grow.
New partnerships, expanded programming, innovative mental wellness initiatives, and increased opportunities for service ensure that even more military members, veterans, first responders, and their families can experience the life-changing impact of connection and community.
While the organization continues to evolve, one thing remains constant:
Service is stronger when we serve together.
The journey is far from over, and the next chapter promises even greater opportunities to create lasting impact for those who have dedicated their lives to protecting others.
