ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Local organizations from Northwest Arkansas, including Sheep Dog Impact Assistance, are sending resources to Texas following catastrophic flooding.
As Monday’s death toll rises to over 100, Sheep Dog Impact Assistance says it is one of the many groups sending volunteers to help out.
“We had members on the ground within 24 hours,” said Sgt. Major Lance Nutt, the founder and CEO of Sheep Dog Impact Assistance.
Sheep Dog regularly assembles teams to send to disaster relief areas all across the country.
“We’ve got a total of five staff members on the ground assessing now and leaning into doing what they can while they’re there, especially to identify supplies and equipment that we can bring into the area. The objective, probably going into next week, will be to have 30 to 40 members on the ground,” said Nutt.
He says crews have reported back that the disaster is unparalleled.
“Everything that the water touched just pretty much destroyed. I think the swiftness of how fast it came up; it wasn’t a slow rising flood. It was very rapid,” Nutt said. “This one is very tragic from the standpoint of the young lives that have been lost.”
The organization, led by both first responders and veterans, says it will continue to do what it does best: put boots on the ground and begin the cleanup process.
“Our people have been trained in how to deal with chaos. That’s one thing about our military men and women and those that serve in the first responder community, that training involves that prep work for dealing with chaotic situations,” Nutt said.
Sheep Dog says there are ways for the community to help out during this time of need. You can find more information by visiting the SDIA website.
