Sheep Dog Impact Assistance’s Get Off The Couch™ programming is a proven, effective approach to fostering posttraumatic growth in military personnel, veterans, and first responders.
Through a powerful blend of physical activity (Outdoor Adventures) mental wellness training (Warrior PATHH), and service opportunities (Continued Service/Disaster Response), participants report significant improvements in mental well-being, stronger coping strategies, and a renewed sense of purpose. Sheep Dog University educates SDIA employees and ambassadors with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively represent the organization. Through targeted training, participants gain the ability to communicate SDIA’s mission, demonstrate its core values, and amplify its impact within their communities.
Anchoring this continuum of care is Heroes Ranch, SDIA’s national hub for healing, connection, and transformation.

Top 3 causes of sheep dog suicide:
Our nation’s heroes are driven by purpose through service. But when that service ends—whether due to injury or transition—their sense of meaning can be lost. Many face post-traumatic stress, depression, addiction, and isolation, leaving them vulnerable to hopelessness and suicidal thoughts.
Military personnel, veterans, and first responders struggling with post-traumatic stress (PTS) and depression are often self-isolate or rely on medication and/or alcohol to numb the pain.
Many living with TBI don’t realize their symptoms—like difficulty concentrating, anger, anxiety, fatigue, or light and sound sensitivity—stem from a physical injury, not just emotional reactions to their service.
Over 1 in 5 veterans with PTS also struggle with drug or alcohol dependence—and more than 70% of those who die by suicide are under the influence at the time, highlighting the urgent need for meaningful intervention and support.
