SDIA & FLEOA Join Forces to Strengthen Assistance to Officers

As a nonprofit organization founded to give back to our nation’s “Sheep Dogs” – the men and women who bravely make up the ranks of our military and first responder professions – Sheep Dog Impact Assistance (SDIA) is honored to announce a new partnership with the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA).
“It is a natural alliance,” said SDIA’s founder and President, SgtMaj Lance Nutt. “Our mission is to provide assistance to all those who have served or are currently serving our country and communities to keep us safe on a daily basis.” That includes military personnel as well as first responders – law enforcement, fire & rescue, and EMS. “We couldn’t think of a better way to align ourselves with the federal law enforcement community than to partner with FLEOA,” he added.
Nathan Catura, FLEOA’s National Executive Vice President, agrees. “Our members look to us to provide them with assistance with legal matters,” he said. “It seems fitting to join forces with a nonprofit organization that can assist our members with other needs, such as providing continued service opportunities and other help for federal law enforcement families in times of need.”
So who is SDIA, and what exactly do we do? Read on to find out.
WHO WE ARE
Sheep Dog Impact Assistance (SDIA) is a nonprofit organization that serves the needs of our nation’s “Sheep Dogs.” Sheep Dogs feel serving and helping others is a way of life that does not stop when a shift or tour of duty ends. The various programs offered by SDIA provide members with an outlet to continue serving, and for some, a renewed sense of purpose.
WHAT WE DO
Sometimes society’s helpers need help themselves due to an injury or medical issue, a family hardship, or other unexpected crisis. The “impact assistance” SDIA members provide Sheep Dogs in need fosters growth and healing for all involved.
Sheep Dog in Need Programs include a variety of initiatives and activities to engage and support those Sheep Dogs among us who may need help.

  • Peer Group & Mentoring/Transition Assistance
  • Continued Service to Society – Helping is Healing
  • Disaster Response Missions
  • Team Building Activities, including Outdoor Adventures (obstacle races, skydiving, canoeing, rucks, etc.) and Hunting Trips (wild game, birds, etc.)
  • Holiday Programs – Project Giving: Thanksgiving Meals and Christmas Outreach: Adopt a Sheep Dog Child at Christmas
  • Other Assistance as needed

FLEOA member Corey Elder, U.S. Probation Officer for the Eastern District of Michigan, has also been an SDIA member and the Detroit Team Leader for the past year. “Being a member of SDIA gives me an opportunity to give back,” said Elder. “Our Sheep Dogs risk their lives daily and rarely get any thanks, so being a part of SDIA allows me to say thanks in a way that can help them when they need it most. Also, since we don’t just give “handouts,” I feel like our help gives them a jump start back to a life that resembles normal even after they have suffered a trauma.”
SDIA FLEOA CoinThrough this new partnership, FLEOA members can join SDIA at a discounted rate, and will receive a new member gear package that includes SDIA shirts, a hat, patch, and window decal, as well as a special commemorative FLEOA/SDIA challenge coin. Other benefits of membership in SDIA include access to free supplemental life insurance (up to $5,000 – with no exclusions) from Armed Forces Benefit Association (AFBA), as well as automatic membership in GovX.com, a one-stop shopping destination exclusive to military and related government agency personnel where members can find premium off-duty apparel, equipment and other products, as well as on–duty tactical products.
